Water damage to our streets
The streets in President Ridge received a new coat in December. It is starting to settle down and the amount of loose gravel is slowly disappearing. However, the new coat is relatively thin and can damage fairly easily.
It is the responsibility of the community, the residents in this suburb, to look after our street surfaces.
The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) recently reported that swimming pool backwashing is one of the causes of potholes on suburban roads. The flooding of roads and dangerous, unclosed manhole covers were being caused by people misusing infrastructure.
"Our manholes are used as storage space by homeless people and hawkers during the day, leading to manholes being left open and becoming a danger to the general public.

Locked Out: Illegal Road Closure in Blairgowrie
The gates for the SRCPG (Sue Avenue, Ralder and Cordon roads and Pekin and Glamour avenues) enclosure at the corner of Macay and Glamour avenues, at the corner Mackay avenue and Cordon road and corner of Barkston Drive and Sue Avenue have been permanently locked since August due to a hike in crime. An irate resident, who lives near the enclosure, said this had caused major traffic congestion in the area. “I use this route on a daily basis to drop my children off at school and since the gates have been locked permanently has inconvenienced me immensely” she said.
